On the afternoon of October 10th, around 1435hrs A69 was returning from a medical call in town and were on RT15S nearing the Mason-Dixon Line when crews observed heavy smoke from a wooded area bordering the highway. Crews from A69 began to traverse Emmitsburg Road (Business 15) in Adams County before eventually finding a fully involved Barn Fire in the 100blk of Shorbs Mill Rd.

A69 (DFRS Kline) contacted Adams County ECC and requested the assignment (AC Box 23-1) which brought multiple crews from Adams, Frederick, Carroll and Franklin Counties. ET64 (DC Click) was the first arriving suppression piece and hand jacked a 5” line to Middle Creek for a water source, later nursed by ACE2-1. TWR6 (Past Chief C. ‘Boog’ Stahley) was second arriving and began to set up for aerial operations. RS6 (Technician Boyle) arrived third and staged behind ET64 and crews assisted with setting up water. B65 (FC Umbel) was eventually requested and responded to assist with spot fires on the field due to falling embers. TWR6 operated for several hours, using several hundred gallons of foam to help extinguish the fire. Vigilant Hose Company responded with 20 personnel and ALL DISPATCHED APPARATUS. DC Click held the command. No injuries reported. The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the fire. Crews returned home around 1900hrs.

Thank You to Lewistown District Fire Department (Frederick 22) and Taneytown Fire Department (Carroll 5) for transferring crews to Emmitsburg.
